The TV drama 〈Dokkaebi〉, which was aired in 2016, can be regarded as a Korean fantasy based on traditional culture. In this paper, we tried to examine the characteristics and possibilities of 〈Dokkaebi〉 based on traditional culture. In the case of characters, Dokkaebi, a humorous image, and Samsin, who was considered an old woman, emphasized the aspect of being a god based on the existing image. The dead lion diluted the negative image of death by adding a deity as a living person, while giving the deity more than the traditional image. Above all, the gods in 〈Dokkaebi〉are close to the god of Korean traditional ideas in that they are sacred but not reigning or intimidating and in harmony with human beings.
This drama embodied the middle space between this world and other world for the first time in Korean dramas. This is a reproduction of a fantastic space. It also presupposes reincarnation and fatalism, but emphasized that destiny is not absolute for man, and that man is a will. Above all, people who came to the crossroads of life and death came up with classic values that humans should observe. So, it is a drama that successfully modernized traditional culture.
