This study was conducted to present the general view of the understanding of Korean and Japanese masked dance, to make a comparative analysis of what changes both Korean and Japanese masked dance, which has succeeded to its view of popularized dance and had been spontaneously generated, showed amid each of their cultures to require into differences and similarities and to comprehend what was the property of dance in Korean masked dance. As a result, it is thought that the national characteristic inherent in aggregate theatrical art and the family hereditary system coming from Japanese self-pride in Japanese masked dance are the points that we will have to introduce in Korea. And we should make an effort to devise many new dance language in a diversity of dance movements without satisfaction with the present situation of our masked dance. As effort will have to allow younger generations to comprehend our traditional dance, which has been neglected, by making its application suitable to our schooling spot. And they should be allowed to understand that our traditional dance has a social educational spot because of the historical expression of the spirits of human and satires and emotions that masked dance exhibits in reality. Accordingly, it is necessary to make a correct understanding and self-awakening of Korean and Japanese masked dance.
