North Korea is a typical state to execute hybrid war. Hybrid war has emerged after the Second Lebanon War in 2006 that its results shocked the world. The theory of hybrid war provides a framework for understanding of the recent conflicts and future wars, such as the IS' threats. This has been developed based on the previous theories, the fourth generation war or compound war. It avoids dichotomy of conventional and irregular warfare and includes terrorism, criminality, and cyber threats. Therefore, its main characteristics are synchronization, multi-modality, and convergency and it proves to be a proper tool for conflicts and wars in the era of complexity and uncertainty caused by globalization, high-tech, and easy distributions of the WMD. Therefore, this has been adopted by militaries of U.S., NATO, and other nations. For a example, U.S. Army integrated hybrid threats into its doctrine, ADP 3-0 United Land Operations in 2011. Republic of Korea, too, needs to analyze N.K.'s threats through the prism of hybrid war. It will help in great a degree the ROK Armed Forces to understand and cope with N.K.'s threats in the future.
