In this study, we overview current critical agendas of housing choices in later life. As of early 2000s, only 0.5 ~ 0.6% of Koreans aged 65 or more live in nursing or retirement facilities but more than 50% live with their children, while more than 10% live in the facilities but mostly live apart from children in the United States. Nuclear families have been now growing fast with industrialization and urbanization, the average span of life gets extended, and the rate of aged is also rapidly increasing. As for variety and scopes of housing choices, recently we see more active senior communities, apartments and complexes for the elderly, offering medical care components, "infilling" in older neighborhoods. Opportunities to move to nearby metro or suburban located senior communities offers the chance to right-size lifestyle without giving up proximity to friends and the familiar. As seniors remain in their homes until they are in their late 70`s or 80`s, when they do relocate, they want to stay close to their home of many years. In order for the variety of housing choices to be effectives provided, senior citizens` membership enacted affiliations are critical requirements. For instance, we can introduce the idea of a community action. A Project C.A.R.E. (Community Action to Reach the Elderly) Community Action to Reach the Elderly is a free program to help senior citizens who live alone, have special needs, or any senior who wants to feel more at ease having a network of agencies looking out for their well-being.
