Tanizaki Junichiro is famous as a sensual aesthetic and a Satanism writer. Nonetheless, "The small kingdom" has been read as a novel which appears socials and economic problems at the time. And it has been said that it is a heterogeneous and exceptional novel written by Tanizaki.
What is the purpose of this novel? Tanizaki’s purport was to reflecting the behavior of children as they moved according to their instinct in the world of children out of social norms.
There is a relationship between the controlling person and the side people who follow the ruler in this novel. It can be seen that this relationship is a form applied to society by sadism and masozim which Tanizaki wrote in the novel. In addition, he fantastically wrote the nature of a teacher who felt pleasure entering under the control of elementary school students. It is an expression of sexual perversion written by Tanizaki.
He described his feelings of love for his mother and childish cruelty in the world of children. This way he was able to express his true nature freely and beautifully in his novel.
