This study examines the content and forms of the spiritual stories found in “Saigokusanjyusansyokannonreijyoukizue”(1726) by Syunou Kouyo from the perspective of worldly benefits. Demons and evil or bad ghosts are bad spirits that open appear in Japanese folk religion and folk stories. To illustrate the power of the bodhisattvas in spreading Buddhism, the existence of demons and evil or bad ghosts was necessary as they are positioned opposite bodhisattvas. This study analyzes the spiritual experiences, such as healing incurable diseases and dealing with demons and evil or bad ghosts, witch are evident in Kannonreijyouki, and makes two main points. First, there are many cases of healing incurable diseases, which is the worldliest demonstration of the power of Avalokitesvara. The spiritual stories on Kannonreijyouki contain the power of Avalokitesvara, who heals incurable diseases and rescues the patients from agony through a specific narrative structure. Second, dealing with demons and evil or bad ghosts is the most dynamic development of the folk narrative imagination, which excelled in that time and space.
