The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of job satisfaction, marital satisfaction, and leisure satisfaction on the psychological well-being among middle-aged men. The study was conducted on 254 married middle-aged men living in the province of Daegu and North Gyeongsang. Married middle-aged men responded to psychological well-being, job satisfaction, marital satisfaction and leisure satisfaction measures. For data analysis, reliability coefficients, one-way variance analysis(ANOVA), correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were conducted using the SPSS 23.0 program.
The results of the study were as follows. First, self acceptance, environmental mastery, purpose of life, and personal growth which were sub-scales of psychological well-being differed according to academic background and monthly income of middle-aged men. Second, the sub-scales of job satisfaction, marital satisfaction, and leisure satisfaction all showed positive correlations with all the sub-scales of psychological well-being. Third, the results of regression analysis showed that job satisfaction, marital satisfaction, and leisure satisfaction all influenced self acceptance, purpose of life, and personal growth. Specifically, emotional intimacy which was a sub-scale of marital satisfaction was the most important predictor of self acceptance, environmental mastery, and personal growth. In addition, job satisfaction was the most important predictor of purpose of life. The findings suggest that it is necessary to consider job satisfaction, marital satisfaction, and leisure satisfaction all together in order to understand and improve the happiness of middle-aged men.
