Since virtual reality technology is mainly confined to the external aspects of cultural heritage such as digital reconstruction and reconstruction, there are very few examples related to the use of intangible cultural properties. The content of intangible cultural heritage is preserved through transferring the technology of the holder, so there is a difficulty in preserving the intangible cultural heritage such as the loss of succession due to the death of the holder and the lack of transferors.
In this study, we propose a method to help preservation, succession and utilization of intangible cultural properties through virtual reality technology. As a concrete example, we propose a design process for development the Mosi-weaving technique of Hansan contents using virtual reality technology, a Korean traditional technology registered as a human intangible cultural heritage. In the future, the proposed virtual reality contents for intangible cultural heritage will contribute to the effective education and utilization of intangible cultural assets of Korea for children, adolescents, ordinary people.
