The purpose of this study is to investigate North Korean refugees’ living standards in taking part in sports. For this, a total of 153 of questionnaires were delivered to and filled in by North Korean refugees over the age of 20 who live in A Metropolitan city. The questionnaire were composed of 23 questions adjusted and selected from Survey on citizens’ sports participation carried out in 2016 by Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The results of this study were as follows. To begin with, North Korean refugees recognized that their health was not sound compared to citizens because they did not participate in sports activities on the regular basis, relax and sleep sufficiently, and ingest abundant nutrition. Secondly, most of North Korean refugees excluding only about 20% did not exercise regularly because they did not have enough time and fund to do regular exercise as general citizens, who joined in sports activities on the regular basis, did. Finally, the main factor to limit North Korean refugees’ sports participation on the regular basis was a shortage of time and fund. For the purpose of promote their sports participation, it would be essential to improve their living standards such as life and working environments. Also, it is noticeable that North Korean refugees would prefer low-cost sports activities such as climbing and jogging even if their living standards improved. It was concluded that policy support should be provided systematically in order to improve North Korean refugees’ sports participation.
