The purpose of this study is to get hold of the level of the desire for exercise and the practice of the desire according to academic career, in come, and occupation of the urban grown men and prepare basic materials for helping workers to care for their health and take part in leisure activities. As a part of it, a survey was made on 471 patriarchs living in Seoul and following conclusions were obtained. 1) The more school education and the higher income one has, the higher the level of the desire and the degree of the practice the physiological activities for which one finds leisure time are getting. 2) A group of the people who live a comparatively comfortable life, such as businessmen, doctor and so on, are more interested in physical activities and practice them more than the people in the lower brackets of income. 3) Though most of the urban patriarchs have enough recognition that exercise is necessary for keeping health and physical fitness and getting rid of stress. They don`t have many opportunities to put it into practices. 4) In physiological desire for keeping health and physical fitness, the need of physical activities is more recognized and the degree of practice is getting higher than in self-realizing and sociological desire for developing personality and making personal relationship go smoothly. 5) Though most patriarchs have enough recognition of the need of home education, it is hardly performed. 6) Generally, they are rising the desire for exercise, but they are negative in practice. So there are much discordance between desire and practice.
