Tony Kushner’s Angels in America criticizes the Reagan regime’s policy of minority discrimination. It has transformed the public’s perception of sexual minorities. Kushner unfolds his keen insight for those who are vulnerable to help them succeed in a cruel reality. His protagonists direct his politics against the US national society which makes it difficult for ‘the other’ to integrate because of their differences. In this social environment, fragile beings with arbitrary singularity do not have a designated place. Giorgio Agamben presents the “coming community” as an alternative to solve this problem. The “coming community” is a new community comprising empty spaces which are necessary for freedom of movement. Bethesda in Angels in America is a world or community where a random entity with its own individual quality can thrive. In this space, garbage-like elements are re-defined as idealized humans, so that individuals can manifest themselves. Bethesda is the symbol of the “coming community.”
