On Akutagawa’s old age he insisted the novel’s value as a story which doesn"t include noting to tell, When it reach to the point when he was writing 『AKI』he finally discovered the meaning of novel and it’s literary creativity. In this regard, Nobuko’s ‘life structure’ can be define similar with Akutagawa. And we can tell that the Ideas of Akutagawa is reflecting toward Nobuko and it can be organized as follow.
First, throughout this study Nobuko’s ideas of husband value is modern concept. But in other hand values of Sunkichi who is the husband of Teruko are old concepts compare to Nobuko’s. In fact this difference between two sisters concepts of marriage, we can define Nobuko as who imply more about the patriarchal ideas.
Furthermore Akutagawa express ambiguous about husband’s authority and values, by emphasis of the Nobuko and Teruko’s conflict’s. Because of male-dominated society, due to the family centralized lifestyle of Nobuko, she gives up the freedom of making relationship’s even though her thought’s was modernized. Among these facts, man cauterized society has won to naturally lead woman to accept the old way, which is unbalanced gender equality.
Inconclusion, 『AKI』is showing the fall of new modern woman’s idea of living in process.
There is a clear picture of Akutagawa’s male principle concealed with the sentimentality of autumn.
Background of this matter was made by the memories of Hide Sigeko who kept bothered him. Akutagawa thought that getting rid of Nobuko’s modern woman ideas and woman university literature hobby can be the conditions of restarting her life. Thus Nobuko’s ideal reality woman life can be found by focusing on what she can do in her reality life, which matter’s more than anything else. The world had changed but the discrimination and prejudice still existed toward the woman, and that is what was expected from woman in that era.
