This paper is the second part of the project that examines 'Islamic Family Law, Possibilities of Reform from a Women's Rights Perspective - A Study through Changes of the Family Law in Egypt, Tunisia, Iran, and Turkey. Whereas the fieldwork of the first year focuses on interviews with Muslim intellectuals in Egypt, Tunisia, Turkey and Morocco to examine whether there would be any possibilities of reform in the family law in each country, the fieldwork of the second year focuses on the ordinary Muslims who are living in the urban area in each country. The target group is 100 of each female and male married Muslims from middle and upper class, and the period of the fieldwork started from January 2005 until February 2005. Quantitative research method with snowball sampling was used to collect data. The research aims to explore how the ordinary Muslims in Egypt recognize Islamic Family law in everyday life and how they practice it. The questionnaire consists mainly with three parts: marriage, divorce, and possibilities of reform in the family law sector. Among the three issues, however, the paper will mainly focuses on analysis of divorce including the reasons of divorce, deferred mahr, problems following the divorce, women's right to divorce, and parental rights.
