The main purpose of this study is to locate factors of conflict-inducing communication and discuss the critical factors influencing the success and failure of workplace meetings in Korea. A questionnaire survey was administered to 326 office workers to find out conflict-triggering situations in interaction and communication activities based on perceptions of past experience. An exploratory factor analysis was conducted with the data collected through the questionnaire survey. The study comes to the conclusion that there are two main conflict-inducing factors, ‘a lack of openness in communication’ and ‘a lack of meeting skills’, in Korean workplace meetings. The study provides ideas, for future studies on approaching conflict-triggering situations in interaction and communication activities of participants in meetings. The result of the study sheds some light on how to ensure effective and successful meetings at the workplace.
