The purpose of the study was to investigate the usefulness of teacher nominations in selecting gifted students and to explore the factors which influence teacher nominations. The relations between scores from teacher rating scale focusing on specific domain (math or science) and scores from teacher rating scale focusing on general domain were examined. For the study 149 elementary school students (grade 3-5) and 76 teachers were participated. Students who are nominated as the gifted by teacher showed similar gifted behavior, achievement and performance. Teacher recommended students with high scores to the gifted education program. Teacher's training in gifted education was not related to teacher rating. Teachers who are interested in math or science showed high score in behavioral rating scales rather than those who are not interested in math or science. Teacher rating focusing on math or science is connected with teacher rating focusing on general domain.
