We try to show in this paper, how the qualifier “human”has to be used, in theexpression“ humanity,”or“ integrity of the human species.”It doesn’t disclose anyhuman essence, and we reject what we could call “the Thesis,”by which such anexpression would introduce a difference of being between us an others animalsand by which we would know immediately from ourselves, what the humanity of ahuman species could be. We argue on the contrary that the human species is constituted through a complexrelation of power, by which, thanks to the growth of natural sciences, we are able toact technically and medically on the action of our future offspring. Yet, this relation is also a symbolical one, which is founded on a non reciprocalprinciple of “constructability”: despite acting as if the humanity of the humanspecies could be treated as a political problem that can be solved only withbiological criteria, we must act as if the humanity of the human species has to bethought in the same time as a political norm. By this second “as if”we have toconstitute ourselves as the representative of our future offspring in an open anddemocratic relation that we try to analyse and develop.
