This research focuses on the background, formation and the state of the diplomatic route between Indonesia’s first president Sukarno and Korea’s first president Syngman Rhee. Sukarno and Syngman Rhee are the ones who led the countries after each independence was achieved in 1945. Under the colonization of outer force, both leaders had been trying to develop nationalism in order to achieve independence. When independence was achieved, they then focused on establishing policies and developing diplomatic relationships. In the process of establishing the country, they followed their own independent diplomatic route. The fact that both of the countries had been colonized has made them to have similar background and they were both leaders who had encountered the cold war system. Sukarno and Syngman Rhee are both outstanding diplomats and for the independence of their countries, they emphasized and make use of the diplomacy.  Although the diplomatic policy and the countries which they were facing were different from each other, the background of their diplomatic policy which based on democracy, is the same. The diplomatic route of Sukarno and Syngman Rhee is based on political ideology, domestic and foreign elements. Sukarno’s diplomatic route is in the form of anti-imperialism, anti-west country, and non-alignment. On the other hand, Syngman Rhee’s diplomatic route is in the form of anti-imperialism, anti-communism, and pro-America. Sukarno’s diplomatic route which seems to be biased had resulted in the spreading of the Communist Party and the execution of NASAKOM (Nasional, Agama, Komunis), a policy which caused politic and economy development to be imbalance. As a result, Sukarno has to handover his political power to the military general. On the other hand, Syngman Rhee left the political stage after he was involved in rigged election and triggered the 4.19 revolution. Although there exist negative comments on the choice of their diplomatic route, Sukarno and Syngman Rhee’s diplomatic policy had nevertheless played a pivotal rule in setting a strong and solid base for the establishment of both countries. This research compares and analyses the diplomatic routes being implemented by the two leaders in the same time frame.
