The aim of this paper is to investigate the cause and development of the Chechen-Russian conflicts and the current situation in these areas. Russia and Chechnya entered into a stage of war, which lasted over the past few years, when Chechnya advocated its independence. Even though Russia faced many internal or external problems at that time,the Russian government did not accept their independence. It is because their independence can cause the loss in Russian political,economical, cultural and geopolitical interests. If Russia approves the independence, minor ethnic groups in Russian Federation may also require their independence. Moreover, Chenchnya is one of the countries which contributes to Russian economy with its massive oil deposits. The geopolitical importance of Chechnya is also an element which Russia cannot give up its right in Chechnya. Furthermore, Russia worried the spread of Chechen Islam in Russian Federation. Terrors against each other have been still continued even after the election of the President Khadyrov who is pro-Russian figure. Thus, it is not certain when the conflict between both countries can be settled.
