The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of metacognition and self-leadership on social responsibility in nursing students and verify the mediating effects of self-leadership on the relationships between metacognition and social responsibility. The subjects of this study consisted of 131 nursing students. Data were collected using self-reported questionnaires. The results were as follows: There was a significant correlation with metacognition, self-leadership and social responsibility. Metacognition and self-leadership had a positive effect on social responsibility. Self-leadership had a partial mediating effect in the relationship between metacognition and social responsibility. Conclusively, this results indicate a need to develop programs that effectively promote the self-leadership and maximize metacogniton to increase social responsibility in nursing students.
