The character industry is closely related with the cultural contents industry and its importance as the modern marketing promotion tool is continuously rising. The color serves intuitive function as intensively as the design in creating a character and is also considered as one of important elements of the character. This study probed into the hue and tone that children associate with the personality type of the character in order to determine how strongly the colors of characters that will be used to make animation and cultural contents would affect children. First, 8 positive adjectives and 8 negative adjectives were presented based on personality types to analyze the associative colors (associative color of hue and tone) of the subjects accordingly. Second, the difference between preferred colors and associative colors was confirmed considering that both male and female children preferred blue in previous studies. Third, children associated the hue and tone in addition to the form of the character with the personality of the character. Based on said results, this study intended to suggest a reference that can be used in applying colors according to their use in the character making process.
