[Abstract] A Contrastive Study of Relativization in Hindi and Korean with Reference to Translation Koh, Taejin (Busan University of Foreign Studies) This paper addresses relativization with reference to translation. It considers the various syntactic strategies of relativization that are available to modify a noun phrase so that, it examines Korean-Hindi translation of relativization. While Hindi exhibits participial as well as full-fledged relative clauses, Korean has only participial relative clause. Therefore, this paper investigates the possibility of translating Korean into Hindi with contrastive analysis of relativization between them. With the help of well-analyzed linguistic materials, learners of a second language may reduce errors or translate productively when language interference occurs. Therefore, the main objective of this paper is to contrast the syntactic mechanisms of relativization between Hindi and Korean in order to provide the possibility of translating of relativization. In this paper, we also propose templates for standardized pattern of relativization from Korean into Hindi although it is hard to make a binary distinction between different types of languages. The parallel relative clauses are generalized into translation templates. This approach is introduced from the perspective of machine translation to reduce such errors and find out the correct equivalent for the relativization.
