간경변증 환자들은 현재 국내 표준 치료인 페그인터페론알파와 리바비린 병합요법의 치료 성적이 상대적으로 만족스럽지 못하고 부작용의 빈도가 높아 새로운 경구용 C형 간염 치료제에 큰 기대를 걸고 있는 것이 사실이다. 하지만 경구용 C형 간염 치료제가 매우 고가이며 특히 비대상성 간경변증 환자에서는 항바이러스 치료의 장기적인 효과가 상대적으로 덜한 만큼 이 환자들에서는 추후 경구용 C형 간염치료제의 효과와 안전성에 대한 검증 및 비용-효과적인 측면이 충분히 고려된 개별화된 치료 전략이 필요하겠다.
또한 간경변증 환자들은 항바이러스 치료 후 SVR에 도달하더라도 간세포암종의 발생 가능성이 있으므로 간경변증의합병증에 대한 추적과 간세포암종 발생에 대한 감시 검사를게을리해서는 안 되겠다.
