The purpose of this study was to investigate the lung capacity, anaerobic power, and isokinetic muscle strength of national-team boxers based on comparative analysis. 22 boxers classified as light weight group (LWG; n=8), middle weight group (MWG; n=7), and heavy weight group (HWG; n=7) participated in this study. Chestgraph HI-101 and Wingate test were used to measure lung capacity and anaerobic power. Cybex 770 was used to measure elbow, knee, and trunk isokinetic muscle strength. As the result, followings were obtained; First, relative FEV1 (FEV1/kg) in lung capacity was significantly higher in LWG than other two groups (p<.05) and relative FVC (FVC/kg) was significantly higher in LWG than HWG (p<.05). Second, there was no significant difference among groups in anaerobic power. Third, there was no significant difference in peak torque among groups in elbow and knee isokinetic muscle strength. However, relative peak torque of trunk flexors, extensors, and trunk flex/ext ratio were significantly higher in MWG than HWG (p<.05). In conclusion, differences in lung capacity and isokinetic muscle strength among weight classes were observed. Therefore, this provides the important basic data to develope specified and individualized training strategies for the best performance.
