This study is to study the characteristics of middle school students' perception of environment and the difference between students who live in a city and a rural area. We had 361 middle school students make sketches of the environment and let them explain their sketches. Among them, 182 students live in a city and 179 students in a rural area and all of them are not taught the subject 󰡐Environment󰡑 in their schools. The result of our analysis is that the natural environment could be divided into nature-only, nature-and-human-coexisting, human-supporting, and human-impacted environment. Many students regard the environment as a place which is impacted or modified by humans.
