There are literally two spaces appearing in the poem of Du Fu, “Going up Yueyanglou”. The Lake Dongtinghu besides of Yueyanglou where the poetic narrator went up was a very large space. And there is another space outside the Lake, it’s the world of china where the poet could never reach the northern part of it, his hometown. The huge space of the Lake was so enormous that it seemed to cover the entire world but it actually could not reach the hometown of Du Fu and the size of the space had been also reduced. The first recognition of these two spaces was thankful to the fact that the narrator could look far a distance on Yueyanglou. And when the narrator wanted to move between these two spaces, the narrator projected his sense of identity as s poet poetm a hypothetical ‘lonely ship’ that appeared in poem. Therefore, that the ship of this poem was the only means of moving between the two spaces and the symbol of the narrator himself. However, the existing interpretation that we know well is resulting in the poet structurally becoming totally indifferent to the huge space of the Lake Dongtinghu to where he belongs. This is also a touching structure of poem that can make the poet’s ordeals fully sympathetic. But if we give the qualities of historicity to the huge space called the Lake Dongtinghu, we can make the poet no longer ignore the Lake. The Lake Dongtinghu was the space where the historical hero had influenced the fortunes of the world and this space could be a space with both historical heroism and huge space in this poem. Although we have seen both the old and the sickly aged of misery, but based on our new interpretation of the spaces of this poem, we can still find the spirit of immortality of the great Dufu who desperately want to demonstrate his unstoppable past and save the world. There are two different spaces in this poem. It is Yueyanglou that makes these recognizable, and it is a lonely ship of the poet that tries connecting between spaces. The possibility of what we can find out of the poet’s features depends on the value we give to the spaces and the ship of this poem.
