This paper explores factors that affect job continuity of military counselors. We conducted CQR-M (consensual qualitative research-modified), a qualitative research method on military counselors with job experience of 5 years or more and identified 5 domains and 19 categories. First, we identified 4 categories and 3 subcategories regarded as important for their profession by military counselors, which includes ‘assisting rookies to adapting to life in military’, ‘crisis engagement’, and ‘support through advising commander’. Second, we identified 3 categories and 5 subcategories that motivate continue military counselors’ career. The categories included ‘job satisfaction’, ‘stable work environment’ and ‘autonomy in work’. Third, 4 categories and 7 subcategories were identified as so demoralizing military counselors that they would ask whether they should quit their job, which included ‘not being treated as an expert’, ‘burnout’ and ‘job conditions specific to military counselors’. Fourth, 4 categories and 4 subcategories were identified as helpful for job crises. Included in the category are ‘personal efforts’, ‘help from family and friends’. Fifth, 4 categories and 6 subcategories were identified that need improvement for job continuity. Categories included ‘counseling environment improvement’, ‘better compensation and respect from camp’, ‘professional development and bur-out management’. In the discussion, we propose directions of how military counselor system management and ways of enhancing efficacy/efficiency of military counseling.
