In traditional values, animals were less than humans. The animals were discriminated against because they did not belong to Homo sapiens. However, since the modern Age, understanding of the status of animals and the value of life has begun to broaden. Scholars who call on the value of animal life insisted that animals be given status. The animal itself is worthy of life. On the other hand we consider companion animals to be human possessions, and are planning them in anthropocentric way. We are interfering too much with the life style of the companion animal. Therefore, this paper will recognize that animals also have intrinsic value as life itself, and will criticize human-centered thinking of planning companion animals. We also acknowledge their nature in order to accept animals as members of the community and suggest that they have ethical responsibilities and roles to them.
