During the rapidly changing industrialization and urbanization period, urban policy focused on supplying housing for rapidly growing urban residents and providing space for business, commercial and industrial activities. As a result, large-scale new cities and industrial complexes were built on the outskirts of the city. However, most of the cities in Korea experiencing the stagnation of population growth and rapid aging due to the low birthrate are experiencing serious decline due to the weakening of industrial competitiveness and the development. Especially, there are many old housing areas, poor infrastructure, poor population and poor living environment, and are vulnerable to crime and disasters. Thus, the government has made various efforts to revitalize urban regeneration after designating urban regeneration areas as areas where urgent and effective urban regeneration needs to be carried out and areas with high ripple effects on surrounding areas are designated.
Therefore, this study examines various methods applied to the selected areas of urban regeneration area pilot effect showing the possibility of success of urban regeneration and ripple effect on surrounding area and follow-up business I would like to suggest various ways to activate the old urban areas that are going down.
