The purpose of this paper is to deal with three difficult problems in the study on Ezra-Nehemiah and to solve them. The first problem is that the texts of Ezra-Nehemiah regarded mixed marriage as the object of reform in terms of community purification, but the Gentiles here was not ‘ger’ in Hebrew but ‘nokri’ (or ‘nekar’). In other words, ‘ger’ participated in the Passover celebration (Ezra 6:21), and they were authorized to seal the covenant (Neh 10:28). The second is the interpretation of the incident that Zerubbabel disappeared during the temple construction. After Ezra 5:2, the leaders of temple building were replaced by elders of Judah other than Zerubbabel, and he no longer existed in the golah community. The reason was that, expectations to restore the messianic and Davidic dynasty which have occurred within the golah community, have stimulated the Persian Empire. Therefore, he was most likely summoned from the royal court or assassinated. The third is the debate on the period of Nehemiah’s appointment for governorship. His original mission was to rebuild the broken walls of Jerusalem (Neh 2:5), and after his mission he must return to Persia. But he was governor of Judah from the twentieth year to the thirty-second year when Artaxerxes was king (Neh 5:14). Therefore, he was appointed as a governor of Judah after completing the temple construction, and later Judah became independent from Samaria district. This can be a guess from the fact that the enemies of Nehemiah no longer appear in the text of Nehemiah.
