For the Korean people, the phrase “When a person dies, he goes back (歸)” has a deep meaning. This is about natural philosophy, which is to grasp the circulatory principles of all beings. The meaning of the word “return (歸)” has long been embedded in Koreans’ lives, death and a changing process of aging. Choi Chi-won, Lee Kyu-bo, Seo Kyung-deok and Shin Heum are called “excellent people.” These are pioneers of the creative logic of the Korean people, all distinguished by the civilization of writing. They are all philosophers of Xì (energy, 氣). They were undervalued and driven to heresy by both the Toegye (退溪) and Yulgok (栗谷) groups. The main reason for this is that the focus was placed on Xì (energy, 氣) rather than on Lĭ (principle, 理), and that he distanced himself from orthodoxy and developed his own ideas. Their view of life and death, with independent ideas, now stands as the generalized bio-class of the Korean people. The Korean people have recognized death as a cycle of regression, so life is more intense.
