Current study collected a total of 166 publications indexed in the KCI (Korea citation index) that used a topic modeling analysis since 2000. Through co-authorship data, social network analysis for researchers and institutions was performed for social sciences versus engineering discipline. A LDA (latent Dirichlet allocation) analysis was also performed to identify detailed research topics and trends. The findings are as follows. First, studies related to topic modeling in Korea showed that the number of papers in the social sciences was increasing rapidly from 2015 and confirmed that the number of papers in the social sciences was higher than those in engineering. Second, the co-authorship networks consisted of a number of small groups, both in engineering and social science. This is an early form of academic research networks. Finally, engineering papers focused on applicability with other systems and development of new algorithms. The social science sector, on the other hand, showed a difference, consisting of an analysis of issues, public opinion, and trends.
