Objective: This study purpose to investigate the effects of normal adults on shoulder muscle activity, flexibility, and pain by IASTM(Instrument assisted soft tisse mobilization) using vibration stimulation. Background: General IASTM has been used to recover pain and range of motion of patients, but studies on IASTM using vibration stimulation are insufficient. We will provide a clinical basis and basic data to understand how the technique applied with IASTM combined with proprioceptive and repetitive contraction of muscles affects shoulder muscle activity, flexibility and pain in normal adult. Method: A total of 20 normal adult participants were divided into two groups, the experimental group and the control group. The experimental group (n = 10) performed IASTM using vibration stimulation, and the control group (n = 10) performed general IASTM. This training took place 30 minutes a day, twice a week for six weeks. Muscle activity measured with the surface electromyograph. Flexibility measured with the back & reach test. Pain measured with the visual analogue scale. The paired t-test was used to compare groups before and after the experiment. The independent ANCOVA was conducted to assess differences in the degree of change between the two groups before and after the experiment. Results: There were statistically significant differences in muscle activity, flexibility, and pain in both the IASTM using vibration group and the general IASTM group before and after the experiment(p<0.05). There was a statistically significant difference in pectoralis major muscle activity and pain in comparison between groups(p<0.05). Conclusion: In this study, the importance of IASTM using vibration was confirmed. Application: If IASTM using vibration is designed and manufactured through this study, it will appear to be useful in the management of shoulders of modern people, and future clinical evidence can be presented.
