Drapability is an important factor determining the end-use of fabrics. In this research, the characteristics of drapability of blouse, shirt, and suit fabrics which consumers prefer or dislike were analyzed. The hand and the preference of women's blouse, shirt, and suit fabrics were measured by the subjective and the objective evaluation. For blouses and shirts 44 varieties of cotton, silk, polyester, shingosen, rayon, tencel, and the blended fabrics of various blending ratio, density and thickness were used. For suits 142 kinds of cotton, wool, regenerated fibers, and their blends were used. The hand and preference of these fabrics were measured using developed scale. Through the subjective evaluation of the fabrics, the 20 adjectives describing fabric touch could be classified into five main factors; surface property, drapability, feeling of bulkiness, feeling of density, moisture related property/extensibility. Through the subjective evaluation, drapability showed the highest correlation with the preference of fabrics for the listed items. To find out the details of the drapability characteristics of fabrics for each end-use, the drapability was measured by using Cusick drapability tester and was processed by newly developed image analysis software (mainly FFT), Drapability-image factors (number of nodes, wave amplitude and wavelength) and drapability ratio were determined and statistical values were calculated. The upper and lower 10% of fabrics in the preference for each item were analyzed for the chacteristics of drapability.(중략)
