Fifty nine CT scans, 54 ultrasonograms(US), 21 endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatographies(ERCP) and 11 angiograms, of 59 pancreatic malignancies were retrospectively reviewed to assess the diagnostic value of imaging modalities, especially that of the CT and US. Sixty three percent of the cases showed a lesion less than 5cm in diameter, more than 60% of the cases were located in the head portion, and most of the hand lesions were smaller than 5cm in diameter. The CT density of the tumor showed 24 with mixed density, 22 with hypodensity, 10 with isodensity and one with hyperdensity. Echopatterns of the tumor were hypoechoic or cystic in 35, mixed echoic in 7, isoechoic in 3, and hyperechoic in 3 cases. In comparing CT with US, the detectability of the pancreas mass was the same in the two modalities, and with regard to other a spects, the CT was slightly superior than the US, but not statistically significant.
