Recently, Japan"s national Badminton team is surprising the world with its remarkable improvement in performance. There are many factors to improve the performance of Japanese Badminton. For example, wide and thick of athletes" class, fair game allocation and player selection and management system, expansion of human and various support by the Japan Badminton Association. and high interest among the Japanese people are being raised. The purpose of creating the current ranking system was to create a fair and free competition base by supplementing the BWF"s ranking method to fit Japan"s domestic reality, while excluding the first-tier soloist system and encouraging new founding teams to participate. After several revisions, the current ranking system was established, which is considered to be a major contributor to the international status of Japanese badminton by strengthening its performance. In particular, the study will examine the transition process of the Japanese badminton ranking system, which is being applied to badminton competition assignment and selection of players. Meanwhile, the Badminton Korea Association is making efforts to select and manage players systematically and fairly. As part of the effort, various measures are under consideration to introduce a ranking system for Korean badminton players. The purpose of this study is as follows: firstly to examine contents and recent research trends relating world Badminton ranking system. Secondly to introduce the background and transition process in Japanese Badminton ranking system. Furthermore, it could provide implications for Korea’s Badminton ranking system and basically useful data for fair game allocation and selection of players.
