The purpose of this study is to analyze the aging of the population in Japan and to construct a life plan for the “Homo-hundred era” based on the living conditions and behavioral styles of the elderly population including the baby boomers. In addition, it investigates what kind of social participation the senior citizens can participate in the community and how to design methods that can effectively support the fulfilling post-retirement life for the elderly.
First, "International Comparative Survey on the Life and Consciousness of Senior Citizens" published by the Japanese Cabinet Office is analyzed. In addition, based on the classification of the types of social participation and hobbies the elderly enjoy found in surveys (interviews), a suggestion is made on ways to build an energetic aging society. Finally, this study seeks a way for the elderly, including the baby boom generation, to spend a fulfilling life after retirement.
Overall, this paper points out the need for policies to support the activities of the elderly on the supply side. Meanwhile, on the demand side, a number of life plans are designed and proposed based on the daily life of the elderly (old life, hobbies, social participation, etc.), from which a life plan that suits each individual elderly"s circumstances and environment could be chosen.
