With growing social awareness of corporate social responsibility (CSR), firms face increasing pressures to address the objectives of various stakeholders. CSR is becoming a strategic part of SMEs, that is essential for enhancing firms’ performance and competitiveness. Because CSR has broadly been associated with larger firms, studies on SMEs’ CSR remain rare. Within this context, the aim of this study is to examine how diversity of CSR engagement affects CSR performance of SMEs. This study divides the types of CSR into economic, environmental, and social dimensions, and examines how the diversity of CSR engagement in these areas affects CSR performance. This study also scrutinizes the moderating effects of CSR information sourcing and CSR staffs between diversity of CSR engagement and CSR performance. The results support the value of moderate level of CSR engagement diversity hypothesis by demonstrating that diversity of CSR engagement shows an inverted U-shaped relationship with CSR performance. The results also suggest that broader CSR information sourcing and having CSR staffs positively moderates the relationship between CSR engagement diversity and firms’ CSR performance.
