The purpose of this study is to explore the design characteristics that emerged in the Anastasis Church of Alvaro Siza. The Anastasis Church is a full-fledged religious facility of the Siza after the Santa Maria Church, showing the use of basic shapes such as squares and circles, axes and proportions, showing strict geometric compositions that are difficult to find in modern architecture. However, Anastasis Church overcomes the shortcomings of uniformity and monotony that geometric composition can have through the “change in unity” characteristics. These escape attempt has a variety of influences in terms of spatial experience, with changes in axes creating spatial orientation and providing dynamics with arc-shaped walls. On top of that, the skylights of various locations and sizes, and indirect light through the side windows and double ceilings represent the general characteristics of the poetical architecture combined with space and light. Thus, Siza emphasizes geometry as a formative principle in the design of the Anastasis Church, but on the other hand, attempts to escape the rigidity and uniformity of geometry using his own architectural languages.
