One of the most prevailing marine environmental issues is harmful algae blooms leading to marine biotoxins production. Okadaic acid (OA), one of the most dangerous foodborne toxic substances produced by toxicogenic dinoflagellates, commonly of the Dinophysis and Prorocentrum genera, is the representative toxin of diarrhetic shellfish poisons. This syndrome is responsible for gastrointestinal disturbances, such as diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Conventionally, OA detection and monitoring relies on mouse bioassays that possess not only ethical but also technical problems, such as poor sensitivity.
