Purpose
Inguinal hernia repair is one of the most commonly performed surgeries in pediatric patients. Currently, laparoscopic percutaneous extraperitoneal closure (LPEC) was introduced as a new modality and has been performed more frequently in Korea. The most important problem in patients with inguinal hernia is recurrence. In laparoscopic repair, the orifice of the hernia sac was closed extraperitoneally with circuit suturing around the internal ring with nonabsorbable suture material. When the knot is loosened, recurrence may occur. In recent, double ligation method was introduced to preventing recurrence. The objective of our study was to compare postoperative outcomes of patients who underwent double ligation and single ligation.

Method
We retrospectively reviewed medical records of the patients with inguinal hernia undergoing LPEC at Soonchunhyang University Cheonan Hospital between January 2014 and December 2018. Preoperative ultrasonography was performed routinely for evaluation of contralateral patent processus vaginalis (CPPV). If a patent processus vaginalis was observed in operative field, ligation was performed. The hernia sac orifice was closed by circuit suturing through single tract in the single ligation. In the double ligation, threads were put into two separate tracks and ligated each other.
