Purpose
In esophageal cancer, It is now well established from a variety of studies that minimally invasive esophagectomy (MIE) can be performed safely with improved postoperative outcomes compared with open esophagectomy. And Robot-assisted minimally invasive esophagectomy (RAMIE) can offer additional advantages regarding surgical dissection, lymphadenectomy, and extended indications for advanced tumors compared to MIE. Thereby, the use of RAMIE has been increasing in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. The RAMIE procedure consisted of conduit formation and Robot-assisted thoracic esophagectomy. Gastric conduit formation can be performed by an experienced stomach surgeon with a laparoscopic or robot-assisted approach. There have been no studies which compare differences in laparoscopic or robot-assisted approach for gastric conduit formation. The purpose of this study is to identify the difference in surgical outcomes or intraabdominal recur between laparoscopic and robot-assisted gastric conduit formation in RAMIE.
