A plural event – multiplicity of an event – has been suggested to yield a mass reading universally, being in parallel to a plural noun that also shows a mass reading. A mass denotation of a plural event is further supported by the fact that this type of a plural event always has an atelic interpretation, assuming a well known atelic-mass correspondence between event and nominal domains. This paper shows that in some languages a plural event is not always mass, and not atelic either, by providing evidence from Mandarin Chinese. Specifically, it shows that a plural event in the language has a count reading, and has no absolute atelic reading. Moreover, a count reading of event plurality parallels to nominal plurality which also shows a count reading. This paper suggests that the parallel between event and nominal plurality is more variable one than the current literature has recognized, and makes contribution to the current theories on the interaction between events and nouns.
