This article examines the post-socialist cultural aspects from a continuous perspective with the revolutionary era through War to Resist America and Aid Korea(The Korean War) films in the early ‘80s. The Korean War narrative can be seen as a cultural medium that can contemplate revolutionary self-imagination and change, throughout Mao Zedong’s period and beyond. Thus, it can complement the problem of the ‘80s discourse’ which sees the new era as a disconnect from the socialist revolution. Based on the above critical thinking, this article unfolds the discussion with “Deep in His Heart”, the most popular and new sign of change among the films of this period. Specifically, the story of “Survivor”, the pursuit of “blood-related” family from “revolutionary” family, and the appearance of female People‘s Volunteer Army are extracted as post-socialist cultural signs in this film. And by comparing these signs with the characteristics of the narrative of Mao Zedong’s period, we explore the cultural mechanism that drives narrative change.
