This qualitative study observes tuberculosis treatment experiences by examining the degree of implementation of tuberculosis treatment based on the Cough to Cure pathway model, targeting 15 North Korean defectors who experienced the treatment in DPRK. In conclusion, 2 participants recovered, 13 were incompletely treated. This means the tuberculosis management system in DPRK did not normally work. The main factor in the treatment was social leverage, and the five factors causing incomplete treatment were the fear of tuberculosis, neglected health rights, financial burdens, desires for survival, and the prevalence of tuberculosis. The research suggests that restoration of the public medical system is urgent for managing tuberculosis patients in DPRK, and that the expertise in tuberculosis treatment must be secured.
