The Korean population is aging very rapidly worldwide. Moreover, the per capita income levels of the population have exceeded 30,000 USD and public interest in living a long and healthy life is greatly high due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is the task of the government to support the people’s right to live healthily through food and nutrition safety measures. Besides, there are concerns about the need to reduce the increase in national and social medical expenses while guaranteeing the people’s right to health.
To solve this problem, personalized food nutrition research and industry using big data and AI can be a very meaningful means to efficiently secure the people’s right to health. It is believed that one of the important keys to helping and supporting each other is a personalized diet, in order to take care of their own health before going to hospital due to illness or injury. A personalized diet using big data and AI is a great starting point for the path toward longer and healthier lives, and it is expected to contribute greatly to the reduction of medical expenses by preventing chronic diseases such as obesity.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety intends to actively play a supporting role to support the people to form a healthy diet based on data and to create an industrial environment in which new added value can be created through non-face-to-face health management services of Food Tech.
Therefore, the MFDS, together with relevant ministries, plan to further strengthen efforts to support integration and utilization of the nutrition information supply system, focusing on the data-based nutrition management platform for food and nutrition safety management.
