In this article, we analyze the fairy tales written by Tatsuyama Ruikou, which were published in Keijo Nippo, in connection with Japanese Siberian Intervention. Siberian Intervention ended up with a criticized war. Shinobu Junpei concluded that Siberian Intervention was a war which was not justifiable. Further, it was not positively valued among military personnel. During this period, articles about Siberian Intervention were suppressed and censored by the mass media. One specific example is Osaka Asahi Shimbun, which criticized Siberian Intervention as a thoughtless behavior, and its article entitled “Does Japan intervene voluntarily?”, published on the 30th July, received an injunction. Under such circumstances, the bulletin of Governor-General of Korea published articles which encouraged Siberian Intervention. The fairly tales included in the bulletin were only those written by Tatsuyama Ruikou. It appears that Tatsuyama Ruikou took the censorship of the time into consideration. Our claim is that Tatsuyama published in Keijo Nippo the fairy tales which accorded with the situation of the time, such as “A tale of the situation ; a small patriot ” which emphasizes the patriotism for children who ended up taking care of the family instead of their fathers who went to Siberia for peace keeping purposes as well as “This parent, This son” where the Japanese militarism is emphasized.
