This study explored the perceptual confusion of five non-front vowels (/a ʌ o u ɨ/) in Seoul Korean to investigate an on-going sound change of /o/-raising. We conducted 5AFC experiments with twenty-five young adults speaking Seoul Korean in their 20s and fifteen older adults in their 60s and above. Audio stimuli were CV syllables extracted from ten female speakers’ word productions and were given to the listeners with and without a babbling-noise. We found generation differences in the /u/ identification accuracy where old listeners tended to mistake /u/ for /o/ or /ɨ/ more often than young listeners. In the listening condition of noisy stimuli, perceptual confusion existed across the five vowels in a chain-like manner by mishearing the vowels for the next higher or adjacent anterior ones. Regression models predicting accuracies based on stimulus acoustics (F1 & F2) support that the sound change is not confined to /o/-raising but also extended to shifts of /u/ and /ɨ/.
