In this study, I have surveyed a variety of meaning uses of ‘SOREDE’ in written language. The result is summarized in the following three points. First, ‘SOREDE’ in written language may be validated by three meanings (‘Causal conjunction,’ ‘Causal conjunction∩Non‐causal conjunction,’ ‘Non causal conjunction’). This can be done on the grounds of “the cause−result,” and, additionally the non causal conjunction can be divided into the categories of development and switch (topic switch/re‐reference) based on the consistency of the topic in the context. Second, ‘SOREDE’ in written language refers to different characteristics in spoken language. In other words, the results in which the use of the ‘Causal conjunction∩Non causal conjunction’ exists and the use of the request of the Non causal conjunction does not exist in ‘SOREDE’ are different between written and spoken language. Third, in the case of ‘SOREDE’ in written language, I found that the position (the beginning or the middle of the paragraph) and the presence of a comma or the lack thereof in the text have an influence on each function. Although this study is intended for limited use cases of ‘SOREDE,’there will be some positive implications that could produce meaningful results through further investigations. Especially, such results can highlight clear differences in basic documents to distinguish between similar expressions such as ‘SOSITE,’ ‘DAKARA,’ and so on.
