The narrative, chang (Korean traditional narrative song), music of changgeuk Janghwahongryeon are based on fantastic reality. In the derivative contents (the precedent contents of changgeuk Janghwahongryoen), play Bae Janghwa, Bae Hongryeon, as well as the original contents, a classic novel Janghwahongryeon-jeon (literally The Story of Janghwa and Hongryeon), exaggerated reality and deviated fantasy intersect. Through “recounting a story” and “reinterpreting a story” during the course of the development of play Bae Janghwa, Bae Hongryeon into changgeuk Janghwahongryeon, the “imitation” as the exaggerated real world and the “fantasy” as the deviated surreal world appear repeatedly. In Janghwahongryeon, a narrative developed by the same writer (Bok-keun Jeong) and producer (Tae-suk Han) as play Bae Janghwa, Bae Hongryeon, a singing narrator (dochang), 5 secondary characters and 4 minor characters together with 5 main characters (Mu-ryong Bae, Mr. Heo, Jang-hwa Bae, Hong-ryeon Bae, Jang-su Bae, etc.) create potential criminals and silent abetters. This leads to the expansion of the semantic system from family tragedy to social tragedy. When watching the horror tragedy full of selfishness and indifference, the audience feel true fear by finding themselves not free from individualism and the lack of communication. In Janghwahongryeon, the fantastic nature including material desire, murder, escape, disappearance, ghost, horror, etc. enables the expansion into a narrative in various perspectives such as the world of selfishness driven by characters, the world of indifference driven by acts, the world of unconsciousness driven by idea, etc.. The technique of jakchang (writing a Korean traditional narrative song) and composition based on fantastic reality contributes to the achievement of the following successful results: 1) the synesthetic expression of minimalism, 2) the representation of the urge for fantasy through timber, 3) the encouragement of the urge for imitation through dochang, 4) the description of antagonistic conflict within the inward mentality, 5) the maximization of catharsis through horror, etc..
