The quality of ground water and surface water which is utilized for raw water deteriorates with several such as draught and flood due to abnormal weather, factory wastes due to industrial development, and the sudden increase of facilites for recreation around a riverhead. We concentrate on plans for improving the raw water quality because of these problems. In this study, 2 stage biofiltration was organized and characteristics of filtration were analyzed with water temperature as plans for improving the raw water quality. Specific characteristics of treatment for water quality of 2 stage biofiltration with EBCT set 30 minutes were represented as follows. In high water temperature, we could remove 95.7% of turbidity, 91.4% of color, 97% of NH4+-N, 79.8% KMnO4 consumption, 73.3% of UV254, and 64.5% of DOC, which is 7.5%, 13.7%, 6.6% 15.3%, 9.3% and 6.5% higher than that in lower water temperature respectively. By comparing 1 and 2 stage biofiltration irrespective of water temperature, results of removal efficiency was as follows. 92.1% of turbidity, 85.8% of color, 94.7% of NH4+-N, 71.1% KMnO4 consumption, and 68.4% of UV254 which is 4.4%, 15.6%, 11%, 14.1% and 15.2% higher than that of 1 stage biofiltration, which implies 2 stage biofiltration is more effective plan for pre-treatment of raw water.
